A Footbridge over the Dee?11.30.00am GMT Thu 15th Feb 2007 Local Liberal Democrats have long wanted to see a pedestrian and cycle bridge across the Dee. It would provide a splendid route from Boughton Heath into town across the Meadows and, in the other direction, a walk along the banks of the river to Eccleston and beyond. Sustrans, the UK's leading sustainable transport charity, has got to the final of the Big Lottery Living Landmark Award which will be decided by a television public vote in the autumn. The winner will get a multi-million pound grant. Sustrans will put forward around 75 schemes which it will help finance if it wins. A bridge across the Dee where Caldy Brook enters the river is one of the schemes it is looking at in the northwest. The picture shows what the bridge could look like - this is the Millennium Bridge over the Ouse in York. By May 2007 Sustrans will decide whether the Chester scheme will be one of the 75 to go forward.
As you can imagine, if this project is to make the short list, public support is essential. You can visit the Sustrans website on www.sustransconnect2.org.uk/projects and register your comments but also let the Focus Team know what you think - you can give us your views on this exciting proposal here: www.annfarrell.org.uk/surveys/3/
